This is a sad one, please open your hearts and crosspost!
Hello,
My wife and I have been involved in fostering shelter rescue animals for several years here in the Newnan area. We have also adopted many animals ourselves and currently are the proud parents of three dogs and three cats – all shelter rescues.
Recently, my wife was volunteering at our local animal shelter in Newnan and a woman came in to surrender a dog that had been found wandering the streets. She was overwhelmed by the condition of this dog and immediately took him to our local vet. After a few days, he was well enough to come home with us, but we were advised that he was heartworm positive and due to his age (approximately 11 years old) and condition, would probably not survive the treatment. We have been caring for him since. We later discovered that he had been neglected for most if not all of his life, left in a backyard alone with little interaction with humans or other pets. The owners apparently left town and abandoned him.
We are trying to locate a shelter that would be willing to take in “Papa” and care for him for his remaining time or until he can find a forever home. We simply can no longer give him the care and attention he needs and deserves and provide the same to our adopted animals.
It would require a very special person to adopt Papa – In addition to his age and heartworm problem, he is very shy due to his history, and he is not house broken. He is however very quiet, medium sized (around 20 pounds) and a very sweet dog.
Please let me know if you would be able to help.
Thank You
